Again, the civil society groups that sprang up in the mid-80s and 90s who contributed to the demise of military dictatorship appears to be handicapped today because foreign donors think that democracy has been returned and therefore drastically reduced funding unfinished business of the groups to reverse the negative mindsel of the people believes all hopes of nigeria becoming better society is lost and that it is only the worst citizens that can aspire to position of authority. Worst still, the people do not believe that ultimate political power resides in them as stipulated in the Constitution, and feels handicap in the face of electoral malpractice and fraud.

People's Rights Organization, PRO has taken up the challenge with hindsight to commit itself holistically to consciousness raising Human Rights Education, sensitization, confidence building and practical empowerment of the people to enable them discover their potentials and see themselves in a new light and see also the possibility of changing the existing abnormal situation. This is to be done through imparting knowledge, skills, moulding of attitude of beneficiaries with the norms, tenets and values of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. The Human Rights values and standards would be inculcated in the minds and hearts of the target audience. At this point, the would be guided by basic Human Rights values which should be seen as the standard and a common denominator of the relations among the people and within various organs of government, and segments that make up the Nigerian Nation. The aim is to protect Human Dignity and achieve a just and humane society devoid of injustice, inequality, discrimination, intolerance, severe deprivation, corruption, misgovernance, oppression, gross Human Right abuse etc. This is what PRO is set to achieve.
